Bakaliko (www.bakalikocrete.com) is a deli concept (grocery and eatery) that brings you fine foods and wines from Crete. It is a place where all dishes are made from the quality products that you canbuy from the store. You taste our creations, buy our products and try them yourself at home. Taste, buy and try! The shop was chosen to be in the main square of what is arguably one of the most endearing villages in Crete, Arhanes. It can trace its origins back to Minoan times and it is ideally situated in the heartland of Heraklion’s wine and olive region. A large number of our grocery products and wines are from this special area of Crete and in addition, we use the products of local artisanal farmers, many of them organic. We are two Hungarian women who are passionate about the beauty and bounty of Crete, the way of life and of course the superior quality and diversity of Cretan foods & wines. Living here for so many years and heaving travelled to every corner, we have discovered (and continue to do so) amazing foods and ingredients which we would like to share with visitors to this special island and for those who would like to savor the tastes they’ve discovered here and recreate them back home. This is our mission. We recommend to taste the saganaki, Arhanes salad, our aromatic pilaf with feta cheese, roast chicken or roast lamb with pistachios and pomegranate, our cooked food daily specials (like chicken with raisins, green olives and onions or pork with quinces, chestnuts and dried cranberries) and of course the Cheesecake of Agnes.
