Was very unimpressed with Varoulko. Much more hype than substance. Food was very mediocre, service was substandard (I frequently had to fill my own water and wine glass). Very confused at how this restaurant was awarded a Michelin star.?

Εμπειρία! Εξαιρετικές γεύσεις, φίνες, με λεπτές ισορροπίες. Εξαιρετική εκμετάλλευση των πρώτων υλών! Μας άρεσε ιδιαιτέρως το πιάτο με την παλαμίδα και το μάνγκο, όπως και το μπαρμπούνι με τη σελινόριζα. Επίσης εξαιρετική η ροφομακαρονάδα και το γλυκό με το μανιτάρι. ΕΙδικά για το γλυκό, θα πω οτι ήταν ένα αριστούργημα, φοβερά δημιουργικό και νόστιμο. Κλασσική αξία και η λεμονόπιτα.

Πήγαμε στο Βαρούλκο για να δοκιμάσουμε τις ιδιαίτερες γεύσεις στα ψάρια και τα θαλασσινά. Η εμπειρία μας δεν μας διέψευσε. Από την αρχή ως το τέλος απολαύσαμε το φαγητό και το ποτό μας, ενώ μεγάλη έκπληξη ήταν τα πεντανόστιμα γλυκά που δυσκολευτήκαμε να χαλάσουμε. Ο χώρος ήταν ήρεμος και άνετος, διευκολύνοντας τη συζήτηση μεταξύ μας. Το προσωπικό πάντα σε ετοιμότητα και με ευγένεια ανταποκρινόταν σε ο,τι χρειαζόμασταν. Οι τιμές δεν ήταν παράλογες για την ποιότητα του φαγητού και την εξυπηρέτηση που λάβαμε.
Beautiful location. Atmosphere and interior design very nice. Our main server was nice but overall I found the service very odd. We were seated and asked if we would like water, but not given menus for about 10 minutes. I had my 11 year old son with me (who is a foodie like me) so I had let them know we would need to not have a late night. Our appetizers were very nice. Not super inventive but good. We ordered fish and lobster for our mains. The fish was very nice. The lobster was extremely overcooked. It was actually tough and difficult to cut. This is a Michelin 1 star so I was shocked. I had to get someone’s attention as no one had come to see how we were doing. It took what seemed to be about 5 minutes for a manager to stop by. Instead of acknowledging the issue he asked if I had a question. He was not very solicitous. I let him know politely that my lobster was overcooked. He told me it would take 35 minutes to remake. Perhaps that is why it was so overcooked…putting that aside I said no thank you and ordered the risotto. That was very good. In the end the manager came back later and said a very curt “sorry” but nothing else. My son and I had been at another Michelin star restaurant the night before and had a wonderful experience. I’m not sure what the style of management was at this one but it did not feel as comfortable and welcoming. We are very nice people who just love food. We still enjoyed our night but found this a disappointing experience for what should have been an excellent restaurant.

Εξαιρετικά σε όλα του το Βαρούλκο , φαγητό και γλυκό, εννοείται ο χώρος και το προσωπικό, όλα υψηλού επιπέδου.

This is the 2nd time I visit this excellent restaurant.
Frankly, every statement for the food and the service will be an understatement. Everything, even the salad and the deserts bring you memories long forgotten. I would definately recommend it!
Of course like all good things in life, it's a bit expensive, but you get what you pay. Nothing less.

Unfortunately our experience was not at all what we have expected. We changed the reservation from 3 to 5 persons which was very smooth and for that we are grateful.
Once we arrived, we were greeted very politely and our wish for a table for 5 closer to the spectacular view was accommodated also immediately and extremely friendly.
From then on, things went extremely bad. Th wine menue was "dropped" on our table before anything else after 5 minutes of waiting. I had to ask for the food menues, which were brought to us with a further delay. I had to further ask for the Degustation menues and after a further waiting 1 - only 1! - was brought to our table of 5 and handed to me. I had to request further menues to be handed to my guests.
The wine was chosen and served into our glasses another 5 minutes before the bread and delicious olives were served.
I left the table between courses to visit the restrooms and when I arrived back at the table just 3 minutes later, my plate had been served and sitting at my empty place.
We deeply regret the experience which did not match our expectations and truly hope that our guests from abroad will not infer from this extremely poor service, that the famous Greek hospitality and service are suffering.
Best value for the money spent in a pleasant environment with stunning views.

We chose the full degustation option with wine pairing. Every dish & every wine pairing was magnificent. I’d dare to say that this was one of the top 3 dinner experiences we’ve had in Greece which is renowned for its culinary excellence. The service was impeccable and, in particular, our sommelier was superb. We are experienced diners and Varoulko takes dining to another level in a magnificent setting. We were even lucky enough to have a full moon rising which added to the fabulous view. For a Michelin star restaurant of this quality, we felt that the prices were fair and offered many affordable options, especially for special occasions. We can’t wait to return to. Varoulko.

Restaurant maitre and restaurant owner were simply fantastic people. Young sommelier bad attitude and little competence was unfortunate. Food was good but really pricey. 80€ per person a bit too much.

The menu was excellent as always. We had a table at the last floor terrace which is beautiful! If you prefer to eat inside ( a/c) then request a table at the third or second floor. There is Vallet parking. Inform them 10-15 before you leave otherwise you will have to wait a lot to get the car.

Food is incredible!!! Pricy but totally worth every penny compare to other similar places in Santorini. The calamary noodles (which are not noodles) were the best calamari dish we ever had! They even organize special kids food! Service also excellent, it is typically too serious in these types of places, the staff was professional but they can loosen up if you are friendly! The whole family had a blast !!! Thanks 🙏
The food was pretty delicious. The entrees were amazing, I wasn’t too fond of the cooked fish pieces however the raw ones were amazing. The view is great but it was honestly too hot on the rooftop. The service was good when you could get their attention. The price was fair for the standard of food. I’d definitely return
It was a good experience, but I wouldn’t say it’s deserving of a Michelin star. The taramosalata was inedible, and the desserts/bread service/scallops were mediocre. The shrimp risotto was fantastic and the catch of the day (grouper) in caramel sauce was cooked well. The pesto octopus was good as well. The service was lacking. One of the wait staff had literally left a dirty dish from another table next to ours for about twenty minutes before removing it. They were largely inattentive and it took quite a bit of effort to get their attention. Overall, I wouldn’t go out of your way for it. There are better restaurants with better service at a lower price. The view and ambiance were nice.

We were on our last night in Athens and were referred to Varoulko by one of our tour guides in Santorini, Andrea. We were not disappointed, it was superb. A lovely view over the harbor, friendly and attentive service, an excellent wine list, and most of all an outstanding selection of fresh seafood. We could not have been happier with Andrea's recommendation.

The view is awesome. The seafood is so fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive. The price is a bit high but still reasonable.
I believe that’s the best restaurant I have ever been in Greece but also one of the best I have been in Europe.

Η υποδοχή ήταν πολύ ευγενική και όλα τα πιάτα που παραγγείλαμε πολύ νόστιμα, ειδικά το σεβίτσε. Η ροφομακαρονάδα κατά την άποψή μου ήταν καπως αδιάφορη. Το ριζότο υπεροχο. Πιστεύω η κάρτα με τα γλυκα θα μπορούσε να βελτιωθεί λιγο, Δυο επιλογές δεν ήταν διαθέσιμες και τα υπόλοιπα όχι κάτι το ιδιαίτερο.

Θα ήθελα να βάλω και 5☆ στη τιμή γιατί σίγουρα τα πιάτα αξίζουν το κάθε ευρώ που δίνεις αλλά στις δύσκολες εποχές που ζούμε θεωρώ ότι προς αυτή τη κατεύθυνση χρειάζεται όσο το δυνατόν μια μείωση τιμών.

Έχω φάει αρκετές φορές στο εστιατόριο κ το φαγητό είναι πάντα υπέροχο. Αυτή την φορά το σέρβις ήταν σαν να βαριόταν λίγο δεν εξήγησαν όπως άλλη φορά τα πιάτα ούτε βοήθησαν στο σωστό σερβίρισμα όπως άλλες φορές.

Words cannot descibe the feeling you have after eating at Varoulko! My compliments to the chef! Great service! Above top-tier food! I must admit, prizes are a bit high, but it's always true "you get what you pay". If you like good see food, and I don't mean fish and chips, you'll love Varoulko!

Excellent location and views from the second floor. The appetizers (fish soup, ceviche, fish filet) and the dessert (pear) were out of this world. Loved the service and the price was representative of the quality. Will come back!

This was our 2nd visit to Varoulko. Last time the place was right at water's edge, the service was efficient and courteous, the food, superb. Certainly understandable how it earned a Michelin star. This time, from start to finish it was nothing but disappointment. Ok, they couldn't help the redevelopment of Mikrolimano but the decor and outlook had all the charm of a dated wedding reception hall. The service was pompous and snooty and the food was abysmal. All of it. Ok, let's put it context, for a 40€ meal you'd say, "ok, that was fine." But for 150€ for a total of four dishes - 2 entrees, 2 mains and salad, it was robbery. Again, some context - Michelin star? Ok, one can expect premium prices. Unfortunately neither the flavours or ingredients were premium to match. Wilted salad leaves - to the point where one tasted of soil - scant ingredients and random inclusions. The salad based 'citrus' and only a piece of orange and piece of grapefruit each the size of an earlobe, we're found. Tomato was not a listed ingredient yet randomly a single halved cherry tomato appeared. It was so slap dash and underwhelming it felt like leftovers come of another's plate. When brought up with waitress she was dismissive and rude. In fact not a single dish impressed. The crab risotto was similarly missing crab! And featured an off-putting florid taste, indicating a complete lack of finesse or balance of flavours. We cut our losses and left as soon as we finished. Not a single "goodnight" from any staff member. Utterly, utterly underwhelming. Athens has a wealth of wonderful restaurants, and much more reasonably priced. I have no idea how they still qualify for a star. Never again.

Τα πιάτα που δοκιμάσαμε ήταν όλα πολύ νόστιμα και με ενδιαφέροντες συνδιασμούς. Στο τέλος δοκιμάσαμε τα 4 επιδόρπια που υπάρχουν στο μενού και ήταν όλα πάνω από τις προσδοκίες μας!
